Stay tuned to the event calendar for announcements of new dances around Eugene.

This site is a calendar for events and classes dedicated to the music and dance of Argentine Tango, in Eugene, Oregon. Come back often!

It is also a celebration of the six-year run of the most extraordinarily public Tango experiment of the 21st century, (outside of Buenos Aires).

New to Argentine Tango?
Over 10,000 people were introduced to Tango through The Tango Center's Introduction to Tango from Zero class, which was every Saturday at 8pm, part of the all-ages, no partner necessary, affordable dance: The Big Milonga (Argentine Tango Social Dance). During its run, it was the largest weekly Milonga in the Northwest. It was certainly the largest Milonga in the US focused on inviting the outside world to come in and participate. It was a unique urban revitalization effort, intended to give the City a dream-like night spot, a place for the whole community, a place where the "audience" was the talent, and people learned to improvise together, through this gentle social dance.

Tango at Studio B

Studio B is closing at the end of July 2012.

A non-profit community center, dedicated to the music and dance of Argentine Tango.

  • The Tuesday Bailonga is at the Vet's Club (16th and Willamette)! 8pm - 11pm. Invented at the Tango Center, it is now Eugene's longest-running Tango event. A 50 / 50 DJ mix (traditional / alternative), with live music when possible, and always two classes (one beginner and one intermediate) from 8pm - 8:45pm. $4 - $8 sliding scale.
  • La Milonguita hosted by Marisela Rizik is every Sunday at the Reach Center, 2520 Harris St in Eugene, from 5-7pm. It is preceded by classes started at 2pm. See Marisela's Tango Blog for her other events, including a Thursday night milonga twice a month at Davis' Bar on Olive & Broadway.
  • There are workshops in Eugene by many visiting instructors. See Eugene Tango and a box that will appear above on this page, or subscribe to the Yahoo Group (see instructions at left).
  • The Saturday Milonga is back, at both the Knights of Pythias, at 420 W. 12th Avenue, from 9pm - midnight, some nights of the month, and at Just Breathe, 2868 Willamette St., on other nights. There is usually a lesson at 8pm beforehand: see Eugene Tango for details.
  • During the school year, when school is in session, there is a University Tango Club Practica every Thursday early evening (typically from 6pm - 8pm) in 166 Lawrence on campus. The UO TANGO Facebook group is the most reliable source of information on this.
  • The University of Oregon hosts Argentine Tango I and II classes every school term, typically Monday and Wednesday night. Community members are able to sign up for a very low cost (typically $60/term). See the feed above at the beginning of the term.

Downtown Eugene

We are part of an alliance of people and organizations who have revitalized West Broadway in downtown Eugene. We've done everything: we even experimented with a The Weekday Market.

The Tango Center was a critical part of the Downtown Revitalization now in place ... actually saving the downtown from destruction, in cooperation with many colleagues, in the 2007 ballot measure that stopped the city from funding the destruction with 'Urban Renewal' funding. In the process of shutting down with much publicity in 2009,  the building was sold to a different non-profit, which is preserving the building:
